Pacemaker

Mom's in the hospital awaiting her pacemaker which will be implanted tomorrow. She's a little nervous about it since she'll be 89 in August. I stopped by her room after work to bring her a few things from the house (we left pretty hurriedly Wednesday morning about 2:30am). Anyway, I wanted to cheer her up.

She said,"I just feel very anxious about having my life depend on a little device in my chest that runs on a battery."

I said,"You shouldn't worry. Lots of people have pacemakers."

She said,"Like who?"

I answered,"Well, Michael Jackson for one."

So the legal assistant and I were talking the other day about names and she asked me about mine. I explained to her that my dad was born when President Harding was elected in 1920 so his parents named him Harding. I am named Harding after my dad.

She looked at me for a second and then rolled her eyes. "Yeah...like there was really a president named Harding."

So, our legal assistant went to Savannah for the first time to visit her boyfriend. When she returned I asked her how she liked Savannah.

"It was great" she said. "it's like New Orleans, but on a river."

So this married American couple goes to Germany for a visit. At the park in Berlin the see a man urinating in the bushes. "Gross!" says the tourist woman. "Danke!" says the man.

So I was in the office today humming the Triumphal March from Aida when one of the legal assistants said, "I've heard that before. What's it from?"

I told her.

"I saw that, but I think it was the Spanish version," she said.

I replied,"The Spanish version? Of Aida???"

"Yeah, it was called......Evita."

THE LIST:

1. I played the bagpipes for about 15 years, but quit ten years ago.

2. I dreamed of being an airline pilot when I was a kid, but that hope was dashed when I learned that I did not have 20/20 vision.

3. My personality tends to shyness. I like being a lawyer in the court room though because I get all the attention and I am in control of things. I get to ask all the questions and not the other way around.

6. I love driving with the top down in almost all weather.

7. I love fireplaces. I've added one to each of the three houses I've owned in Houston. Every August I oreder a cord of firewood for the winter and burn the whole cord before spring. I also have a fireplace in back on my patio.

8. I'd like to live somewhere where it's colder.

Sunday Bike Ride

I got up at 5:30 this morning which is pretty early for me, especially for a Sunday. Since we were supposed to ride this morning, the first thing I did was check the weather radar. It's been wet lately and the forecast is for rain.

Aimee arrived at 6 and we loaded the bikes on the truck. By 7 we were in Fulshear with our biking friends Ken, David, and his wife Joanie. The roads were wet but there was no rain so we set off. Ken had a flat about 3 miles out and that held us up about 30 minutes. About 5 miles further along he had another one. I was riding close to him when his tire blew. My right ear rang for about 30 minutes. We pushed on to Pecan Grove where we took a water break. I ate a 6 pack of Oreo's, my official ride snack.

The rest of the ride was uneventful, but beautiful. Cool weather and great country scenery. Everything's in bloom. We rode quiet country lanes past fields with horses, donkeys, mules and goats. We were back at the truck by 11 and home by 11:30. Now for a big breakfast and a great Sunday nap!
